Sustainability in action

Sustainability is part of our business strategy, and it’s integrated into everything we do. With our product reach extending broadly across daily life, we firmly believe Venator has a role in contributing to a brighter future. Sustainability directs how we operate our facilities, plays a fundamental part in developing our products, and is central to how we engage with our associates.

Our sustainability ambitions

>

Our strategy consists of four pillars

These areas reflect the sustainability topics that are material to our business, and in each of these areas, we have specific targets that set out our ambitions for 2030. Our final pillar, Performance, represents how we measure these targets for the other three pillars. To achieve these targets, we have specific projects that will move our business forward and help us work toward achieving our 2030 targets.

Valuing our team
Our associates make us who we are and bring our vision to life. We aspire to create a high performance, inclusive, and safety focused culture where our people can reach their full potential.

Driving value for our customers
We are a large chemical manufacturer, and guaranteeing the safety of our products is paramount. It directly impacts the health and well-being of consumers, workers, and the environment. To ensure this safety, we must also ensure that our products are of the highest quality.

Performance targets
Performance underpins our sustainability strategy and cuts across our People, Products, and Planet pillars. To demonstrate our progress on our targets within these pillars, we must provide consistent and accurate performance data.

Sustainability Governance

To deliver on our sustainability ambitions, it is crucial to have strong sustainability governance, with oversight from the Board and responsibility embedded across the business.

Our governance structure for sustainability begins with the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee of the Board, where our Non-executive Board Sponsor for Sustainability, Brian Snell, oversees and monitors the progress against our sustainability strategy and targets. The Committee is ultimately accountable for the achievement of our 2030 targets.

Our Sustainability Council is responsible for reporting sustainability performance to the Board.

This Council is comprised of workstream leaders from across Venator’s global operations who represent each business unit and function. The Sustainability Council is chaired by Dr Rob Portsmouth, our Senior Vice President for Sustainability, Human Resources, Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS). It meets quarterly to review performance and progress against key initiatives contributing to our sustainability targets, and works to identify new ways Venator can continuously improve sustainability performance.

Created in 2022, the Council is responsible for implementing our sustainability strategy that will ensure that we deliver against our sustainability targets. Each Council member takes responsibility for the progress of a sustainability workstream by coordinating activities with their teams globally and carrying out strategic actions that can contribute to our targets.

In 2023, the Sustainability Council worked across a range of priority topics:

  • Assessing climate-related risks and opportunities in line with the TCFD recommendations.
  • Creating a sustainable supply chain framework.
  • Working on programs to progress the decarbonization of Venator’s manufacturing facilities.
  • Working toward compliance with new sustainability regulations and frameworks, including the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive.
  • Developing our People strategy to advance our sustainability agenda.

Ultimately, achieving our sustainability targets requires the attention and work of everyone across Venator; it is the Council’s responsibility to provide the necessary knowledge, training, and guidance to support our associates in realizing the importance of sustainability.
